Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, Mtskheta
The current Svetitskhoveli Cathedral was completed in 1029 C.E. The original church was built in 4th century A.D. during the lifetime of Saint Nino and the reign of King Mirian III of ancient Iberia,(not Spain).
The patron saint of Georgia, St. Nino is believed to have selected the site due to the confluence of two rivers at the location (the Mtkvari and Aagvi). She was responsible for converting King Mirian III and Queen Nana to Christianity. She is revered in throughout many Eastern Orthodox Churches of various regions and countries.
Some believe that the robe of Jesus (Isa, Yeshua) is buried in the Cathedral under the seventh column from which sacred liquid once flowed that cured diseases.
