St. Paul’s Well - Tarsus
Christianity
It is known that (St.) Paul (Saul) came originally from Tarsus and it is believed that the well and ruins photographed below are of his family home. In AD 49 he along with Silas returned to Tarsus during evangelical tours. Tarsus is relatively near Antioch where Apostle (St.) Peter’s cave church is. Antioch was a major Christian center and Paul stayed there after his first proselytizing journey for an extended time. (The exact length of time is unknown but scholars estimate it to be from nine months to eight years.) It seems likely due to the close proximity that he frequently visited his family home.

The water from the well is considered sacred.
