Samtavro Church of the Transfiguration and Convent of St. Nina - Mtskheta 1130 C.E St. Nina preached Christianity at this location, leading to Christianity being declared the state religion in 324 A.D. by King Mirian with the support of Queen Nana. They are both buried here.
There are objects believed to be miraculous in Samtavro Church including: part of the the pillar on which Christ leaned just before the crucifixion, the Iveron Icon of the Virgin Mary which reads “Holy Iveron Georgian Monastery 1919,” the icon of St. Nina donated from St. Petersburg by King George XII to his grandchildren in 1870, the holy relics of St. Abibos of Nekresi under the altar table, the relics of St. Shio Mgvime and part of the stone from the grave of St. Nina from where she is buried in Bodbe.
